warning horn ???? 19.5 gls 1989

89 gls with 90hp evinrude. I need to know if this horn is supposed to "beep" when key is turned to run ---just prior to start, it does alarm when grounding temp sensor, so the horn does work.

I've got a '89 GLS 175 with the same alarm dangling behind the dash. It doesn't beep during start up.

Yes it is suppose to, sorta like a self check.

if i short out the temp wire on the head unit it sounds. but during normal start up turn key and no beep is it a key switch issue

Hello, I'm new to the forums but have the same boat. If you've solved the problem by now then you probably don't need my input but here goes...

We had the same issue with the warning alarm - it's an engine overheat alarm. We have a 70hp VRO that always set the alarm off. It wasn't getting the oil from the oil tank. We took it to a mechanic, switched the motor over to premix, and haven't had an issue since. We also have a 'rude 9.9 kicker that runs on 50/1 premix so now we have both connected to the main tank. It's a lot simpler system - in my opinion.

Again, don't know if that helps but it worked for me.
