We would like to put on an upper deck for fishing, diving, and sunbathing (my wife). Anyone have one they like?? I've looked around but haven't found anything reasonable yet...appreciate any input, ideas.....Thanks!
It takes a lot of modifications to add a upper deck, its more than just throwing one up. You will be a lot better off to find a boat that all ready has one.
How long is your boat, upper decks are mostly put on boats that are 28 feet or longer. you need the wight of the longer logs and added deck to keep the boat stable and even then they can be a little tipsy
They LOOK like fun. They ARE fun when the water is calm. They are NOT so fun when the boat is bobbing around like a cork! That deck is so high off the water it's really moving around with motion much greater than present on the lower level? Like when a 3' wake hits the boat from the side? Anyone up there will need a pretty good set of "sea legs" to be mobile in anything other than calm conditions.
With that in mind, you might also have a clearer idea of the loads involved when mounting one....

Note: Appreciate everyone's input, thanks! We rented a pontoon down in Texas that had an upper deck on it and we loved it, which is why we have been looking. (It can get pretty windy down there - I've been on the water with a deck in the wind so I'm familiar. It was stable and we didn't have any problems.) Long story short, got a call from a friend of a friend and we are in touch with J's Upper Decks - looks really good, knowledgeable and informative. We are ordering.
Will follow up.....
