Re: drilling into the cavitation plate
maybe practice makes perfect? docking is a skill to be learned. much has been written in various boat handling books, chapmans seamanship and boat handling comes to mind.
i don't see how yer wandering while docking. wandering occurs while underway at real slow speeds while trying to go in a straight line. while docking, your not underway, your going so slow that your in and out of gear (+ giving the helm, steering, input to line up with the dock)unless your docking in wind or current. even in them conditions, your still going so slow and such a short distance to being on the dock or still approaching the dock, wandering should not be an issue at that point. drifting maybe, but not wandering. imho.
a uso would hit my prop also
probably so and it'll break or bend too. point is imho, is them long fins on that wandering whaletail are just asking for something to put stress on your anti cavitation plate, if ya contact something with it. while cast alum. drills real easy, it's also very fragile to side loads, like cast alum. just breaks off.
as ya can tell, i'm one of them fellas that don't have appreciation for whale tales..
