Waiting for the manual...

After years of running a 1974 Evinrude I have just crossed over to the dark side and bought my first Merc (2003, 15hp, 2 stroke).

I've ordered a manual but it is taking a while to arrive. Could somebody rescue me by telling me the required torque for the water cover bolts please?

Thanks, but....

Are we talking about the same cover? The one I called the water cover is the one above the top of the pistons which has the thremostat housing on top of it - is this also known as the crank cover?

The crankcase cover is the one that forms the 'bottom' of the engine, the one that the intake manifold and reed valves bolt up to, it's not the same as the cylinder head cover. The previous poster gave you the torque for the head cover (cleverly disguised as 'cylinder block'), 60 inch lb, same as exhaust cover.
