This is a 2000 Johnson 200 J200VXSS. Had the low oil alarm going off(alarm sound every other second). Replaced the fuel/oil pump with a used one from a 97' Johnson/Evinrude V6 200....last weekend. Cranked and ran fine with no alarm, I don't remember excess smoke. Engine normally would smoke at cold start up, then smoke a little after that....normal. Yesterday, it was a little hard to start(not normal), and smoked 10X more than normal and did not decrease at all, got worse if anything, no alarm. Could there be a problem with this application ? Issue with the "ratio" of oil ? I really don't want to buy a new fuel/oil pump but......... any advise ?

Check and see if its actually putting out 50:1 mix,, break down the numbers, run it long enough to see the output. then you will know if its pushing too much oil through.

Re: VRO replaced/now more smoke ?

Thanks for that suggestion..... unfortunately I have no way to measure it. A new twist...... cranked it up again late yesterday. Cranked fine, and smoked normal ??? So.......to recap--replaced the fuel/oil pump, alarm problem fixed. Cranked it 3 times with the second time being the problem....SMOKED BAD. I'm not convinced it's OK. Been running it on hose/muffs.... maybe I need to put it in the water and take it for a spin. Any other thoughts on what maybe going on ? Thanks............

An air leak on the gasoline supply side will cause the OMS pump to provide extra oil to the carbs. It will smoke like crazy, where you will be able to trace your path by the smoke trail.

Thanks Chris....... that sounds like a great place to start. I'll check all the fuel hoses/connections. We'll seeeeeee........
