I'm replacing the motor in muh boat due to water in the crank case...
I bought a long block from Rapido...

The old motor has metric bolts on the back and motor mounts, and the long block from Rapido has standard bolts...not sure if this means anything or not...seems weird that a GM motor has metric when most are standard...

anyway on to my question...

What is the difference between Vortec and Non-vortec heads...the heads that came on the long block has stamp rockers and the heads off my old motor has roller rockers with a rocker rail...should I try to convert the rocker rail and roller rockers over to the new motor or just go with the stamp rockers and keep the Rapido warranty in tact.

Thoughts?

Ayuh,... Vortec heads have No center bolt holes for the intake manifold...

The valve train off your old motor is no doubt aftermarket, 'n actually an Unknown commodity...
Unless you can Identify it, 'n are able to set it up properly,...
I'd go with the new motor, As Is...

Re: Vortec VS non-Vortec heads

seems Chevy uses a roller rocker head from '99 and newer.
"12557113 heads"

I'm not at home, but will have to check to see if these are the heads that I have on the old motor.

Yup, the late vortec V6's come with factory roller rockers, and metric threads. I would leave the new longblock intact for warranty purposes.

I guess I learned something today. Years ago, from what I was told, GM started the changeover to metric per the US govt. GM changed all bolts to metric except the bolts that went into the block. At that point, the US govt scrapped the changeover program so no more changes were made. I guess 30-40 years later, somebody changed their mind.

There would be no advantage to performance at all, just a long term wear issue. Yes your right as to the 113 using a fulcrum rocker system..You more than probably have them now(vortec heads)..Rapdio probably just cut there cost a few hundred by not using a full roller system...Is this a Volvo motor or merc?

I believe GM made the change to metric because the rest of the world is metric and they wanted to increase their sales in those markets..

Re: Vortec VS non-Vortec heads

the weird thing is that its only the bellhousing bolts, starter bolts, and motor mounts...

the head bolts, timing cover bolts, oil pan bolts...are all standard.

seems like only the back of the block has metric, bottom and front are all standard.

Kinda jacked up.
