My volvo penta 270 outdrive won't lower, it will try to go up but not down When I first checked the wiring with a test light, I had power to the black wire on the tilt motor but not the brown wire. My repair manual stated that it could be the relay switch, so I followed the brown wire to the relay made a drawing of the wire location and color and replaced the relay. My part store cross-referenced the relay, I bought another relay and installed it. Now when I hit the switch both relays just click neither one will try to raise or lower the outdrive. I hooked up jumpers to the motor and the motor works in both up & down direction.

Weswall31,

I have had the same problem.
There is a "fuse," which doesn't look look a fuse, mounted generally either on top of your boats motor or on the port side. Follow your main power cable (red wire) off your stern drive trim motor. You should find a "junction" (little plastic gizmo) where the red wire from stern drive motor attaches (probably a 10 mm nut). You should see another red wire attached to the other post at this junction. This wire goes to your main (+ positive) power distribution bar/panel.
The little plastic gizmo where the two red wires meet is a fuse. They crap out frequently. I keep a half dozen on my boat all the times. Takes less than 5 minutes to install a new fuse.
