Volvo Penta out drive

New guy here, my parents bought a hurricane boat. The out drive is very corroded from salt water. It has a 5.7 1996 engine. The outdrive is a 3868394 1.60 ratio. Can I use another ratio and part number out drive. We found a good used 1.85 ratio 3868155. Any help would be appreciated

They say that's possible but you would need to do some prop adjustments(pitch/size) to account for the ratio

Id start by going up 2” in pitch assuming current prop has you in the correct rpm range fir engine. I did a similar swap with a 4.3 mercruiser (1.82 ratio drive) powered boat. PO cracked the block, i swapped in a 5.0 which by the factory would have come with a 1.62 ratio drive. Went from a 19” pitch to a 21” works great pulls hard to 5 k rpms
