Would anyone know for sure the block casting number used by Volvo for the AQ231A? I’m looking at swapping in a rebuilt vortec 383 to replace the tired 305. The 383 uses the 350 block with a casting number of 880. I just want to make sure it’s compatable, having all the threaded holes for accessories like engine mounts, alternator power steering etc

Thanks,
Mark

The AQ231A is late 80’s vintage, pre Vortec. The 383 they say year 2000 and up and it’s Vortec. I know the block is dimensionally the same, but I want to make sure all the old accessories with bolt onto it without issue

Any 350 block (and there are about 100 different casting numbers) can be made into a 377 or 383

Get a roller block (some From 1988 on, all from 1996 on)

Your drive uses a drive plate, so any vintage of block will work - 1 piece RMS or 2 piece RMS. You are limited to a 153 tooth flywheel with the PDS housing
