Im getting ready to put the transom plate back on my boat.
Volvo 270.
When I removed it, it didnt look like there was much of anything in the way of sealant. Maybe a little of what I think might have been aircraft gasket sealant. But hardly any if that was in fact what I saw.
Also there were six rubber o rings. One for each bolt. They are flattened out, but still very flexible. I plan on reusing them. They are like 12 bucks each.
Should a guy use sealant, silicone, or gasket maker of any kind?.
any tips???
Thanks for reading my post

Ayuh,...... You should be able to get fresh copies at a hardware store for under a buck a piece,.......

generally, there is only a dab of sealant at the ends of the transom seal to hold it together.

Another question maybe someone can answer.
I cant find any galvanized carrige bolts to replace the rusted ones. The only ones I can find are threaded to the top..
I have never seen anyone use stainless steel carrige bolts on their transom plate. Those I can find..
Is there a reason people don't use stainless steel?
