Visible exhaust after starting

When I start my 3.0L, I can see visible blackish exhaust for maybe thirty seconds to a minute and then it seems to clear up. What might cause that? Is that normal?

When I turn the ignition on, the choke plate should start opening. So do I just wait longer? Or should I adjust the choke so it's open more from the start?

Open a bit from the start. Or if it's starting fine, leave it.

It starts fine it's just that it kicks out some black smoke so it's too rich apparently
