I have a 76 Tri-Sonic Riviera SST. It has a vinyl trim racing-stripe like thing at the front and back of the boat. One on each side. I just want to replace the weathered vinyl. Can anyone tell me what I need to search for on ebay/amazon to get a decent trim replacement? There is this silver, bendable trim with a black vinyl insert of some kind to cover the screws/rivots used to attach the metal trim. It is very stiff and when I pull it out its going to need replacing I am sure. I might be able to salvage the metal trim, but would need a new rubber/vinyl cord or insert.. Picture is attached. I am okay with using all new pieces for triming it also. Just dont know what to look for. I have the white vinyl already.. that should be no big deal. Thanks.

To me....that looks like the stuff rub rails are made out of. To me....it looks like the manufacturer....

Installed the metal channel
Installed the rubber insert
Bent the ends down over the edge
Installed the trim panel

Without being there, that's what it looks like which would make it a challenge to remove/reinstall. Not saying impossible, just a challenge.

Some members have used heat guns to make old rub rail inserts pliable enough to remove.

That vinyl insert is available for larger marine suppliers - and could likely be found esiest with Google searches. The "racing stripe" is available though many t-shirt shops. Go in with a picture and the dimensions and quite a few will be able to help. Shops specializing in car graphics would be a sure thing....

Thanks. Searching for Boat Rubber Rail Insert gave me I think what I was looking for. If I have to buy a new metal channel I will too, but it help to know what to search for. I was searching for vinyl rail and only getting camper crap. I'll try the heat method too. I think the channel is attached with rivots so I might have to drill those out to take it off to add new new vinyl. I guess I'l' find out.

Not clear what you are saying?
Re: what hold rub rail trim down? There's probably 2 dozen different styles that are all a different shape or size, and it inserts/snaps into the alum. part. to cover up the screws.

Re: the sheeting? Is this the "racing stripe"? That stuff works similar to a decal. You peel the paper backing off and stick it where you want it. There's a little more to it, but that's it basically.

I think, and could be wrong, what the OP is saying is this....

The panel as manufactured, had the vinyl insert laid down first. Then the C channel trim installed, possibly with rivets, with the rub rail insert added last.

IF its like the rubrail I'm thinking of, the black rubber insert may need to come out first to expose the rivets so they could be drilled out, channel removed, and finally old vinyl removed.

I think....I'm old, I'm fat :)

I'm guessing the racing stripes were mentioned for shits and giggles?

haha. Yes, they are not a "decal" or anything. I was just trying to explain that they are like racing stripes but made out of a vinyl covering and then trimmed.

At this time I don't know what holds down the rail. I'll have to remove the rubber to find out. But I suspect its riveted and will need to be drilled out. If the rubber snaps into the rail, that will definitely require me to replace the rail as well.

The sheeting.. Im talking about the vinyl cloth that is there. Its a very thin layer of padding, then vinyl cloth over the top of that and then trimmed with the metal rail to hold it down. The way they are position on the boat reminds me racing stripes is all. Sorry if that was confusing.

I agree with you on how this would be assembled / disassembled. I just wanted to know how to find replacement parts. Like I said, it was helpful even to know to search for "rubber rail inserts" Sounds dumb, but I didnt think of that before. Thanks

Confirmed that if you remove the rubber, the rails are riveted on and will need to be drilled. Now, I just have to see if I can find replacement rubber and I'll be good. That current rubber is 46 years old and pretty stiff. lol
