I have no idea what you are talking about as they use the same connector from at least 86 to 89. That connector part #0395588 needs to be unbolted to slide off as it goes through a groove on the upper shift shaft and has the pin that goes through the lower shift shaft. Which means it holds everything together you can pull that clevis pin until you are blue in the face. That connector is not moving until till that bolt is removed. Also with this part when you slide it off AFTER THE BOLT BEHIND THE CARB IS REMOVED BECAUSE IT GOES IN FROM THE BOTTOM the pin comes with it. You do realize he is talking about an 1987 right.

Remove pin # 87 ---Then push shaft #88 to the port side.---This releases the shift rod.

I give up when he does it like that and can't line it back up because he has never done it before and he can't get his shifting to work he'll back here. My way he has to see how everything works he will see whats happening and how it works.
