v4 power head base gasket.

Im replacing my base gasket on a 90
Hp ocean pro due to water in my lower port cylinder. i was just told by a friend that the power head base gasket cant cause my issue. ive already replaced the head gaskets and compression is120 in all cylinders. can a base gasket cause this issue and if so how?

OMC had probs back in those days like you have. There were probs with the inner exhaust hsg, gasket and the power head. If I was you, I'd call BRP customer service at 1-262-884-5993 and see what their latest recommendation is on how to fix this. Let us know what they tell you.

I called Evinrude and they were very helpful. The most likely cause of the water intrusion to my lower port cylinder is the base gasket and or corrosion on the exhaust housing where it meets the power head base gasket. They said it is fairly common. I hope the housing is repairable as a new one is 700 bucks. I'll pull the power head in a couple of days and find out for sure. Has anyone ever seen one of these repaired?

If you can find a good machine/welding shop it could be repaired if the corrosion isn't to bad. And yes, I have seen them repaired. Get back to us on what you find.
