I have a 20 gallon tank full of gas that was treated with stabil that is 5 years old. I have been advised to drain the tank and use fresh gas. I was wondering if it would hurt to save that old gas and throw a couple gallons in my truck when I fill the tank (like maybe 1 gallon old to 10 gallons new).

That's about all I would do with it. I wouldn't run it "straight" in anything!

Ah, well--If you have fuel injection and if you ****-up the fuel system in the truck it is going to be expensive. What is your reasoning for NOT using the gas in a pleasure vehicle that you do not need yet use it in a vehicle that gets you to work?

If you are going to drain it out and dilute it, better to use it in the boat or use it in your lawnmower or lawn tractor.

Mainly because I dont have enough containers to store 20 gallons of gas for as long as it would take me to use it up in a boat or lawnmower. But I guess you are right. Its better to dump $70 worth of gas then screw up the truck.

If the gas smells or looks bad then I would dump it. If it looks and smells like gas then use it even if it does smell a little ripe. I have dumped a bunch of old mixed gas in my fuel injected truck and it hasn't missed a beat. I did accidentally dump some gas with water in it in my tank and that shut her down. I had to drain the tank and purge the fuel/water at the fuel filter. Took some effort to correct that screw up. I probably got shiny clean pistons out of the deal.

5 year old gas? do yourself a big favor, and take it to the nearest recycling depot.
