Is there anything I have to watch out for if I do this so long as I keep matched gears and bearing sets, clean, inspect all parts, set rolling torque (2.5 - 4 lb in) and reshim using the propper tools? Thanks in advance for your help.

As long as you use the proper tools and shim it proper per the Merc service manual, you should work fine.

Thanks Don! I didn't see any reason why not, but lack the experience to know if there was something that might not be apparent from the manual... This will be the first time I've set one up by myself, but it can't be any different than doing a rear end on a muscle car - be patient, careful, check every measurement and then check it again, keep it good and clean, and generally just take the time to do it right...

Have a great one!

That's it.
The ones that think a step is worthless or not necessary are the ones that soon need to replace there drive because it blew up.
