Re: used boat ..

google up buying a used boat.... ya'll get many choices to look at...

everything should be considered... the boat, the engine, the drive...

when i was a buyer. no omc products, no mercruser 470 version engines. no odd obsolete drives.

no wood rot in floor or transom

does everything on the boat work, gages, radio, acc. etc. turn everything that does work on and off.

does it reach wot spec for that rig

engine compression

drive lub has no metal in it and is not foamy

pressure test drive

does engine stay cool.... new impeller?

does it shift real nice

does it have a whale tale... if so, why.

is every cleat, snap, rail, screwed on tight pay perticular attn. to anything surface mounted to transom, espesially below the waterline

look the hull over closely, ft. to back, top to bottom, includeing underneath it

test drive is a must, no drive, no buy. does it leak?

i'm sure i missed some... google it....

most important: test drive is a must, no drive, no buy. does it leak? make it a 1 hour trip. not just in forward, stop several times, and reverse.

ah, go for a 2 hour trip....:D have fun.....

i bought my boat on a consignment sale... i dealt with the owner of the boat store..... he let me check anything and everything, which i did my best to do. among the things we did was a drive pressure test and compression test prior to him taking me out for about 1-2 hours. closer to 2... the dealer was having a great time. i think he drove more than me... wot too, just out of an alleged 15 year storage.... it's like tear it up man.... came back to the shop and retested drive pressure and lub and compression test on the engine..... i had a good experience with my seller... but i didn't take anything he had to say as true w/o checking myself.... it was a one day project to buy the boat.....

Re: used boat ..

get someone who knows boats go with you, take a in class safe boating course before buying. you will be better off before buying. you need to know where you are going to be fishing, creek, small lake, river, open bay, inshore or off shore. all this goes into the type boat and power.
