Of the 2 of us, JDA would know:
heat gun works best and you heat it after it is installed to help remove the wrinkles, even the best upholsterers will have loose spots that need a little heat, a hair dryer will work, but takes longer, may even be a better option for someone not used to the high heat of a gun, get it too hot and it can melt. You can pick up a heat gun from harbor freight for under 20 bucks that will at least last long enough to do your seats

Glad to see I've been paying attention :)

Yeah, now that their sewn, the heat might shrink the vinyl just a little. or loosen it enough to smooth out the wrinkles. Don't get too close w/ the hair dryer, or a heat gun...

Lightly mist the wrinkle with water, and start to dry it w/ a hair dryer & smooth the vinyl w/ your hand. If the vinyl is too hot to touch, it's too hot, and you may permanently damage the vinyl. A pro might use a steamer, if you have a hand held steamer, you might try that too. Again, carefully....

If it doesn't work, step up to the heat gun. But be very careful, too close or too hot for even a very very short period, and you may be remaking the cover :(

One side done. These are by far the most time consuming. Also replaced the rotten runner boards that run along the sides and re-vinyled those as well...

I'm jsut curious as to the seam in the middle of the white portion of the seats. Is there a reason for this?

that seems to be a common practice, for looks, and I assume he copied the old pattern...I tend to try and do away with unnecessary seams like that but do think it gives a little class if done right (french seam)

looks better with than without, i did the first one with out.. didnt like it... like changing a tire and leaving the center cap off... it works without it but looks a little better with it...

I dunno just the way i think i guess.... she coming together pretty good though... working on front sections today!

Something to remember...Seams allow water to penetrate to the underlying foam and structure. The more seams, the more penetration. I try to eliminate as many Non-Sealed seams as possible. Full Felled seam is a different thing cuz it's totally waterproof but a single stitche seam is not very strong and as stated, not waterproof. Just something to consider.;)

Yea, i thought that. The factory seats had the side panels of this seat single stiched. So it must not be to big of an issue if it came that way from the factory. Actually the seats lasted since 89 and it was more wear and tear and the cushions looked new underneath. No mold still yellow...

After your post i did spray each seam with water repellent just in case...

I really appreciate the heads up and hopefully prevent it..

Thanks Man...
