Nice work!

How does the Admiral feel about the upholstered seats mounted on the fireplace hearth

Have a great weekend, and I look forward to seeing the rest of the upholstery work & all of it re-installed in the boat. Bayliner right?

Thumbs up. My pet peeve is when people reupholster cushions in a different color than the original or only use a single color when the original had two colors. Your's looks nearly professional from the pics and i see so many that were done poorly in a hurry.

Should be posting a few pics tonight of tommorrow. Yes this is on a 89' Bayliner Capri. All of the Seats are done except the back to back seats which I may try to do tonight.. All thats left it the boat side panel soon as I figure out how they come off...

WELL..... The back to back chairs are a PITA. Did one and it didnt come out right. Fabric loose in places. Going to try to pull it back tomorrow. I may just have someone do those for me.. I dunno..Im not quiting yet

Ok now for the details.

This has been on my mind for some time now. First things first... Game plan... I wanted it to look decent but with out that look like the previous poster stated about doing them all in one color and ends up looks cheesy. I planned it all out on paper and sketched it up.

Boom--- Shopping time.

Fabric is Marine Navy Blue and Marine White from Jo ann... I bought way to much lol...

Nylon Thread(you cant break this thread)

Heavy Duty Seam ripper

Electric Stapler (Makes Life Easier):D

Box of Staples

Scissors

Pen or Soapstone Pencil

and off we go....

Some of the seats were in so so shape and was able to use the different panel to trace new ones. Marking what side go where as I went. The other half were tore way to much and i had to use a little math and measuring.

Sewing-- My and my wifey have never owned a sewing machine. I have never used even used one. She said she had classes in high school so she would be good to go, to just buy her one. We ended up with a lower end cheapy unit for around $75 bucks. Brought it home and 2 hours later neither one of us had made a single stitch. She had forgotten how to set it up and we were jamming up the machine. Frustrated she went on and I sat down to "figure " it out...lol..

Couple youtube videos later i set it up and ran a nice 14" seam.

Feeling froggy just after one seam I went ahead and started on the fabric.

did the first cushion and downhill from there... i was even sewing up my old blow out boxers...LOL

Time and Patience....This take a LOT of time....

My honest opinion is that when you get them installed and are zooming around on the water enjoying the fact that you are sitting on your very nice looking, newly upholstered seats...you are not going to care what anybody in the whole world thinks...:eek:Enjoy!:D

I think you have done a GRRRRR-8 job on them!;)

Try heating the vinyl to get rid of a few of the wrinkles/folds...you may not get them all out but it will help some, also noticed you use a nylon thread, nylon has good strength and mildew resistance but breaks down when exposed to sunlight, should use a UV bonded polyester thread, fortunately on your seats it does not look like you did any top stitches so it may be ok in the long run...otherwise looks ok and will serve your purposes!

Ok, Half way through these my sewing machine started messing up and I seriously considered buying seats...lol $458 delivered. I cant cough that for seats in an old boat. That 1/5 of what the boat cost me. After looking at them I like em and like PP said who cares when im out there..lol its not a 1million dollar yacht. Each one i do actually gets better and easier.

When you say heat the vinyl. Can i do that even now after its stapled and ready to rock. Would a bad ***** blow dryer work or do i need a heat gun for like auto body?

Yeah, now that their sewn, the heat might shrink the vinyl just a little. or loosen it enough to smooth out the wrinkles. Don't get too close w/ the hair dryer, or a heat gun...

Lightly mist the wrinkle with water, and start to dry it w/ a hair dryer & smooth the vinyl w/ your hand. If the vinyl is too hot to touch, it's too hot, and you may permanently damage the vinyl. A pro might use a steamer, if you have a hand held steamer, you might try that too. Again, carefully....

If it doesn't work, step up to the heat gun. But be very careful, too close or too hot for even a very very short period, and you may be remaking the cover :(

heat gun works best and you heat it after it is installed to help remove the wrinkles, even the best upholsterers will have loose spots that need a little heat, a hair dryer will work, but takes longer, may even be a better option for someone not used to the high heat of a gun, get it too hot and it can melt

you can pick up a heat gun from harbor freight for under 20 bucks that will at least last long enough to do your seats
