no one really cares what the rating is until the theres a problem then oh the hitch is to small we will not pay. The higher the class the thicker the material and the more connection points to the frame so check the receiver rating (not the part that the ball is attached to) If that is only rated for 5000lb then change it for a higher one. You will also have to change the ball and holder. If you are just looking at the ball then you may have the wrong ball with the smaller threads. Last chevy Silverado 1500 i seen in the mud pits they managed to crack the frame and snap the whole back section including the bumper of the truck with out damaging the factor tow hitch so im not saying they are weak but its a insurance/law thing so just change it out
