I have a 1989 Searay 220 OV with a Mercury Mercruiser 5.7L 260 Alpha One Gen One out drive. I have done a complete service to the, bellows, senders, new Quicksilver shift cable, and updated Quicksilver Shift Plate Interrupter Switch Kit (from roller to new style). After manually locking out the prop in forward gear and setting the required 6 inches I adjusted the Remote shift cable barrel 4 turns out. I put the muffs on and checked to ensure I had both forward and reverse, when doing so the interrupter switch cuts the motor when shifting in reverse. I am not sure how to adjust this further. Could anyone qualified suggest or advise on what to do to alleviate this problem (cutting out in reverse) All the Marina Service Departments in my area are now months out and I am in jeopardy of missing out another season.

When you installed the cable, did you thread it in all the way. No more than 2 threads showing.
Did you adjust the movable stud all the way down first, then adjust fwd, then raise the stud to have reverse?

Thanks for responding and for your time. As to the the lower shift cable clevis, I did ensure to be at the lowest in the slot. As to the thread depth of the lower shift cable brass connector to the bell housing, I tightened it to the point I was reminded it was a brass connector ... But I cannot attest as to the thread count? I'm not sure. With regard of tightness, it was tight. Incidentally, a local benevolent boat mechanic, lent me a 1/2 an hour of his expertise, sold me ANOTHER lower shift cable to install (3rd, don't ask) and he was was gratuitously rewarded with half a sawbuck for showing ... Afterwards, He did ask if I did install the brass connector 'flush' as well. That provokes thoughts. Yet Im thinking it's in deep enough. I'm thinking to raise the lower shift cable clevis incrementally in the slot and see how that goes. What ya think? Again, thanks for responding and for your time.
