I did a post several years ago after having great success with $Dollar store toilet bowl cleaner instead of spending $25 on Marykate OnOff. I have been doing the same and recommending to others ever since saving a quick $20 on bottom cleaning. The past 2 seasons I have noticed that the $dollar store bowl cleaner was not doing the job any more. The original bowl cleaner that worked so well was SnoBowl and I didnt realize that the product that was not working as well is "Works" and thats what the $ store carries now and it DONT work.Still not willing to fork over the now $30 for OnOff and not being able to find SnoBowl ,So I did a comparison test with some toilet bowl cleaners and I found the best by far to be Lysol 10X .It worked instantly on bottom paint fouling and took about a minute for fiberglass browning at the waterline.I was thoroughly impressed with the results.Cost was $2 at Wallyworld and well worth it.The active ingredient is 10% Hydrachloric acid so you need to be very careful and wear gloves and eye protection. It is a gel so it is safer applied and more difficult to apply to large areas and vertical bottoms. With the liquid type ,I was able to pour several bottles in my garden sprayer and apply it everywhere however you can get easily "misted" with the liquid sprayer so extra caution was necessary.I have not tried putting the gel in the sprayer yet. The results of this bowl cleaner were so impressive that I wanted to share the info as soon as possible.Kudos to Lysol 10X !!! Charlie

You could use muratic acid and dilute it down to 10 % hydrochloric acid concentration. Might be even cheaper.

No matter what I used, I couldn't get that brown embedded stain out. It seemed, as I said, embedded in the gel coat.

Now I use oxalic acid. It totally gets rid of the stains.
It comes in a powder form and is the main ingredient in most toilet bowl cleaners. I bought a bottle of it on Amazon.

Use proper personal protection when using any type of acid. Eye, skin, and breathing protection and of course it should only be used outside.

I dilute it with water, spray it on, brush it with a long handle brush or broom, wait a couple minutes and rinse.

I wet my painted trailer and driveway down before using the acid.

The oxalic acid, like most acids, will stain anything galvanized, so protect those areas, if you have any.

Buy oxalic acid on ebay. It's basically what is already in the Starbrite hull cleaner at a fraction of the price. Used it for years

Yep, as I stated (post #6), that's what I use. Powdered oxalic acid. It works great.
Nothing would get those brown stains out of my gel coat. I tried all kinds of home cleaners and even my pressure washer to no avail. Diluted oxalic acid worked like a charm.

Smart and Final has a toilet cleaner with hydrochloric acid in it.
Works great on the toilets and will now have to try it on my boat.
