ugh...I should have known better.

sorry guys!

No need to apologize. It looks to me like you hadn't really thought the problem through. Having studied this problem for some time, I am aware of the many roadblocks that prevent its solution from being simple.

LOL...amazing! Some people get it and some people don't I guess.

Its a very simple problem. Identify 2 pairs of wires of different colors using your 2 manuals and connect them. If you want the VHF to send info to your GPS, then there is another set. Can't get much simpler than that. Its a point to point serial interface that runs at a super slow baud rate.

Thanks to all for the help.
I got it hooked up and appears to be working. Radio says GPS DATA OK. Haven't tested yet.

One more rant tho. For that kind of money they could use higher gauge wires. ***** to crimp those skinny azz wires.
Great forum, great help, great people.
Thanks
Mark

I probably would have soldered them since they are so small.

Wasn't that difficult was it?

Glad the hear that you got it sorted out. Sorry that I was not more help . . . I have not had a chance to tinker with the boat, so no time to look at the wiring, etc.

If you can, let me know the color of the wires that you had to connect, etc to integrate the units. If soldering is needed/recommended, I'll probably have to wait until the boat is on land during the off season.

I don't have a solder gun. I used a terminal block and will liquid tape it and probably wrap them in this 3m stuff we used for our connections on towers for our wireless internet business. Its thick and doesn't harden and waterproofs and weather protects.

Its not that its difficult to do its just put wires together. Its the determining and deciphering the different language descriptions used for the wires. If I was 100% sure that not crossing up wires wouldn't blow either unit I wouldn't have worried as much. But at $500 plus for the two units I wasn't going to take a chance. Wife would have not feed me for awhile. :-(

NYBO thanks for the cheat sheet. :)
TP next time I am on the boat I will double check and let you know how I hooked up. Pretty much used NYBO cheat sheet above. Should be in the next day or so.
And thanks to all that posted. I appreciate everyone taking the time to help and offer advice and tips.

THanks
Mark

Thanks, Mark:

Sorry I could not have been more help . . . it seems that having my boat moored in the water for the season gives me little time to actually work on it, etc.

I will check my manuals and try the hook-ups, as suggested.

Terminal blocks in a marine environment are problematic over time.

I started using telecom splice connectors on the small diameter data wires on the boat. No wires to strip. They install using a pair of pliers and are filled with a silicon gel to seal the connection from the environment.
