I am trying to backflush my raw water, 2006 Merc 4.3L 262 cid engine, and looking for advice on the removal of the bellow elbows from the exhaust assembly/raisers. I've loosen up the 8 clamps holding the bellows and was able to pry and push back them back, (towards the transom), on both sides but haven't been able to completely remove them off. What could I possibly be doing wrong? Am I missing any steps  ???

The end of the elbow (inside the rubber sleeve) is as long as the part of the elbow you can see... If you loosen the 4 clamps on the rubber sleeve BELOW the aluminium tube and slide it down the Y-pipe you'll be able to pull the ali tube and rubber boot off the elbow....

Hope that makes sense to someone....

Re: Unable to remove exhaust bellow

Thanks Chris, I appreciate your response. I was finally able to remove both sides bellows and elbows, but not before spending a good 2 hours in this task. I removed all 8 clamps and pryed the whole assembly loose, and using a lot of muscle, was able to get it apart. I found that by lifting the elbow up first and get it off its lower bellow, then push it back from the risers clamps connection last, was the only way I was able to crack the puzzle. I tried every other possible way and the damn thing wouldn't budge.

Thanks again, Andy.
