I read the mercruiser manual and I looked through the stickies but did not find what I was looking for.

I know the u-joint bellows gets bellows adhesive on the gimbal ring side, but where on the bellows? Do I put adhesive on the inside in the area where the hose clamp goes? On the inside raised rubber part that sits in the aluminum groove / recess on the transom part? On the inside flat section between the raised rubber part and the accordion / flex section? All three areas?

Per the diagram posted by Don in post 11 of this thread, we are to use lubricant 101 on the OD of the bushing. The Mercruiser manual 14 parts diagram says to use Loctite on the OD of the bushing (item 6). Which one is correct?

Re: your second question, logic tells me that you use loctite, not grease, on press-fit parts that you don't want to move in use. Especially with a dissimilar metals interface, which due to different rates of expansion could allow temperature-related loosening. There is definately a discrepancy there. I know of another source that says loctite.

Agreed that bushing and seal assy is pressed in the bellhousing lightly.

On the bellows adhesive - only put it on the areas where the bellows and lip on transom housing fit together just a light coating on the lip around the gimbal bearing and inside of the bellows where it seals on the lip.

let them get tacky and put them togther.

When you go to do the retaining ring on the bellhousing get some merc power tune to spray on it. It makes stuff slide easy on rubber to seat the ring
