1993 Chaparral, 2050 Cuddy. 4.3 LX . Engine Serial OD 843641. So I replaced the Fuel Pump 2 seasons ago. Mercruiser $400 part. Original one failed. I just experienced a fuel issue and needed an emergency fuel delivery. $$. Seems okay now with only a short run back to our home dock. Either the tank was lower than I thought, or the fuel pump may be failing. I plan to Tee-In a pressure gauge at the carburetor inlet and monitor the pressure. Also I was thinking about having a Universal 12 volt Fuel Pump ready to easily install into the 3/8 hose leading from the tank to the filter and pump. My question is will a second temporary fuel pump be able to “ push through “ the Mercruiser fuel pump if the issue happens again? Really don’t like be stranded on the water. They are available 5-9 psi, or 4-7 psi. Amazon of course.

I would question if amazon pumps are marine rated.

additionally, no, generally you can not push fuel thru a failed pump

Good plan, you should also check fuel pump vacuum. There may be an issue in the fuel system before the pump

I've found when people add a "pusher" fuel pump in between the tank and oem filter/pump assembly it's merely masking an easily fixable issue, ymmv

Or you could have a screen INSIDE the pickup tube.
You can get a fitting for the carb to accept a barbed fitting,So get the elec pump .put some alligator clips on it some barbed fittings and some hose

So after hearing from a few folks I could do this. Have the “Test Fuel Pump” ready to install. It would consist of 3/8 fuel hose, an in-line filter and of course the pump, along with the correct fittings on each end. If the issue repeats itself, I can by-pass the current filter and Mercruiser fuel pump with the “Test Fuel Pump”. There’s either a 4-7 psi OR a 5-9 psi available. I’ve got the 4 BBL Weber carb. Thoughts?
