Hi

I'm looking at changing the motor on my twin hull cat. It only has a single motor on it. The current motor is mounted high as it has hydraulic tubes that need to be mounted above waterline (see highlighted area in photo). If you look on the hull you can see propeller doesn't really sit to far beneath it. The motor on my other boat (which I am looking at swapping) is much newer and would allow me to mount it 2inches lower. Downside is I would be going from a 115hp to a 90hp. Just chasing thoughts on this

Re: Twin hull cat with single motor

On lowering your hp, you are dropping 25 hp, 90/115 x 100% = 78% of the power you had. That is significant, and if you are like most of us homosapiens, human nature (in your subconscious) will force you to be unhappy with it.

Other thing to note is that you are probably going from a 2:1 gearbox to a 2.33 or thereabouts and you may need a prop swap too.

I never saw a cat with one engine but I guess if it's setup right it works. Apparently your current setup worked.

HTH,
