That's the number my grandmother had from her nine children.

The oldest (my sister) was born in 1946 and I can't recall the birth year of the youngest. I was the first born grandson.

Anyway, this allowed me to have 23 first cousins on my mother's side of our family, and I know all of them.

Sadly, we just experienced the first death of one of granny's 25 grandkids. A female cousin, 51 years old, took her own life. She herself had 3 children and an unknown,to me, number of grandchildren herself.

I still find it amazing that all of granny's grandkids were still alive.Myself and another male cousin served in the military. No deaths from war, disease,or vehicle accidents. I'd say our family beat a lot of odds for all of us cousins to have survived that long.

Re: Twentyfive grandchildren

My dads mom has 26 grandchildren from 9 children too, 27 if you count one stillbirth. 2 of my first cousins have passed within the last 3 years. One was 48 from natrual causes and one that took his on life at the age of 41. Ive lost two uncles and one aunt in the last several years. (getting older sucks:( ) I think the oldest is early to mid 60's. Back when my mom and dad were living big families was the norm, Or at least down here in the south. Lots of families in the late 30's through the 40's survived with farming. I guess that more hands meant more crops. LOL.

Re: Twentyfive grandchildren

Sorry for the loss of your cousin.

My maternal grandmother (97 years old):
8 kids
24 grandkids
79 great grand kids
5 great great grandkids

All still alive including their spouses, except for 3 of her sons-in law (non blood relatives)

My paternal grandmother had (before she died in 1995) :
7 sons
24 grandkids
5 great grandkids

5 more great grandkids and 5 great great grandkids added after she passed away.

All still alive including their spouses, except for one of her sons who passed from complications associated with Parkinson's, and one grandchild that died of leukemia in 1963.

Many of these people are construction workers, farmers, ex-military, truck drivers, LEO, and loggers.

It is truly amazing that not one of them has been killed in an accident.

All but about 20 still live in Wisconsin.

Can you say 600 people at my sisters wedding a couple years ago.

Re: Twentyfive grandchildren

I have 113 first cousins, and I lost count of second cousins, split fairly even between both sides. A lot of cold winters I guess.
