Re: Trying To Understand Texting

I need to comment on the speech to text feature.
I have a suction cup windsheild mount that charges my phone, and is great for using the GPS function on my droid X.
While driving I see my emails pop up..I tap the screen..when SAFE I scan the email, tap the reply icon and hit the microphone.
Say what I want to type for a responce, then hit send.
For a guy that used to have a pager 25 years ago, it's a loooong way from then!
The speech to text is a great feature, IMO. Especially when it can translate my mumbling into text. I have a cradle for my EVO that plugs right into a 12v outlet, and charges my phone. I use my GPS every day. I also, when at a stop light or stopped in traffic, I can reply to texts and emails. People I do business with are always telling me I am quick to respond.
Technology is grand!

I remember paying $150 for a pager, that was a LOT of dough back in the day.

Re: Trying To Understand Texting

Was talking to a guy today who said he used texting while deer hunting in tree stands last year. He said he could keep track of the other hunters, and find out where the game were moving. Said that he downloaded a bird song to use for his texting ring tone.
"I thought to myself that it didn't sound like deer hunting to me, but this is a new age."

A friend and myself will use our phones to keep in touch rather than using 2-way radios to find each other, and I'll use the gps and google maps to mark deer trails, signs, where I shot a deer in case I lose the trail.

How it doesn't sound like deer hunting I'm not sure, because without the phone, I'd be out there with a compass and a topo map, so all I did was make it less time consuming. Not like the phone is aiming the gun for me...

Kinda nice to have a 8 megapixel camera to get a pic of the kill right in the package with the maps and communication too. One less thing to carry out there...

Texting is fire and forget. Not the best way to carry on a conversation, but highly useful for transmitting information. Press send and you're done.

soggy feet, I just want to clarify my thoughts on hunting.
It used to be that in many states, electronic gadgets to report, track, game in the feild was illegal. I do not know if these laws are still in effect today. When I hunt, it is usually to get away from it all, and pursue game in I guess..."old school"...mode as our ancestors did it. I like to archery hunt, as I personally feel that using guns is too easy. I enjoy the thrill and sometimes the hardships that come with this style of hunting... But for each his own.
I do carry a cell phone when I hunt in case I get hurt and need help. Other than that, stealth, and getting out in nature is all I want. :)

What chance do we have when I myself have witnessed a Police car being driven with the driver holding 2 phones at the top of the wheel and either texting or copying a number from one to the other !!

While hauling my boat to the lake on saturday, saw an Oklahoma Highway Patrol driving 70ish mph with an Ipad hanging on his steering wheel...... Wow, I feel safe

Im surprised you knew what an Ipad was being from Dibble!!!! Just Kidding, I see police talking no the cell phone driving around all the time here in OK!

Could be talking to each other?:mad:

My ancestors used to hunt, with rocks and sticks, eventually graduaitng up to a flint-tipped spear. ;)

Is it correct to assume, that you archery hunt deer, with a compound bow and magnesium arrows?

"roughing it", is a state in one's own mind.

I get where you're coming from, I still don't think a phone is really tracking any more than putting a pencil mark on a map is, but I will agree that it's nice to get away, which is a good part of the reason I live on a boat on a mooring with almost no cell service. It's me, my radio, and some reading material. Although, I must confess, I've started using my smartphone to download books from google at work, to read on the boat.

damn technology is everywhere... ;)

Lol....yea mscher you got me there......If they ever made it legal to hunt deer with a spear, I would like to try that:) They arrested a guy near here a couple years ago for jumping out of a tree stand onto a deer's back with a bowie knife. They said it was not a "listed legal weapon" for taking deer.

Crap, I've always wanted to try that.

Doe only though. I could see that going terribly wrong depending on where you land on a buck....
