I just traded my 14' 1961 lone star Malibu with the original 35hp evinrude on the back even swap for a 21' fiberglass with an 88 hp Johnson on it. Now my problem is identifying it. It was sold to me as a 76 cathedral v but I'm guessing that would be the model which I can't find anywhere online. It won't let me upload pictures and I can't find a hull number anywhere. Also it has a cathedral V tag on both sides

Welcome aboard.

What does the paperwork say? And what are the the first 3 characters of the HIN?

Thank you. And I can't find a hin plate anywhere. The paperwork was just an old registration that said 1976 cathedral v 21'

In 1976, on a fiberglass boat, the HIN should be molded into the fiberglass on the top right corner of the transom, or at least to the right of the motor/outdrive.

You should have a title as well, given the length of the boat. I would think the HIN would be on the title?

Well no stamped hin on either side inside or outside of the transom. I just got home so let me see if I can get it to let me upload pics now

I suspect the number is there, its just been covered or obscured.

Clearly the exterior hull has been painted or gelcoated as the OEM Cathedral V logo probably wasnt the exact same color as the hull. The black bottom paint is new as well.

Theres a new deck too.

Any chance you have pix of what work was done below deck?

I hope you all are great friends and atay that way.

The flaking white paint doesnt bode well for his efforts.

No pictures of the underside. Doesn't appear to be any repairs visible. If their are they did an excellent job of feathering them out. Here is a pic of the transom side that's supposed to have the hin. Maybe later this week after work I'll try and scrape or sand some and see if I can uncover it

That's what I was thinking but that puts me in the right direction. Thanks a bunch. I figured with no hin it was pre 1972.

So I just went out and measured it. It's 18' 10" long, 21" transom height with a 90" beam. So that makes it a 1969 cathedral v-19. Thanks a lot for the help guys. Now to figure out what year the Johnson 88 spl outboard is lol. The model numbers are worn off so I can only read the serial number
