Trouble replacing thermostat

hi there,

I have a 2005 Stingray 185LS with a Volvo Penta 3.0 GLP-C (engine SN 3869250). My temp gauge looked like it wasn't reading properly so I figured I would swap the thermostat. I ordered part number 3853799 from the manual. And used the diagram below to locate my thermostat. That is when I noticed the new thermostat does not look much like the thermostat that is inside the housing currently. It looks larger than the one on there currently. Also - I cannot get the current thermostat out. Any ideas? I have never replaced one before so I am a total novice and and likely not doing it correctly. I was looking for the current o-ring to pop off but cant even find it. Can anyone tell me if I've ordered the correct one or how to get the old one out? Any info is much appreciated!!! The Thermostat No. 8 is held in by "O" ring No. 9 just dig/pry the "O" ring out, then there is usually rust that needs a bit of cleaning to get the T'sta out.

Dypcdiver is correct. I looked up your engine and couldn't find the "C" version, but that's typical when searching for VP parts. The models before and after C show thermostat 3853799, so I think it's correct and the o-ring is preventing its removal.

I have, yes. That’s when I realized I likely wasn’t getting an accurate temp reading
