I think I did everything per the book, 3 misc bolts and 4 retaining screws removed. The only thing not sure about is if I have it in Reverse (no cables connected). It says to move SHIFT LEVER towards the power head so I pulled it BACK towards the cylinders. I can get a screwdriver tip in the front but towards the rear it doesn't seem like it wants to open. I was thinking to go around with a putty knife to get it started but figured I'd ask here first. I hit it with a rubber mallet trying to loosen it but no go. What am I doing wrong ?

Did you disconnect the shift linkage and remove the bolt under the fin ??

shift lever, look at the rod that goes under the power head, there is a snap ring, pull the snap ring, and move the shift rod side way toward the motor. when looking from the other side of the motor you have see the linkage connector.

Got it ! Pushed shift lever inward and then found that other bolt way up there.

1) I think OB said you can use the gasket sealer in place of the OMC M adhesive. Do you agree ?

2) That little plastic key on the shaft, I take it that diagram in the book is from above and that the drive shaft spins clockwise ?

thanks again
