Trouble finding serial # on 115hp

I bought a 115hp merc from a friend of mine (his pops owned it since new). It was rebuilt around 2004 and is approx a 1995. It is 4 cyl. I suppose when the motor was rebuilt the freeze plug serial stamp was replaced as mine is just painted black and only has 2 digits on it. The bracket tag is gone, maybe because it was stored in the salt for 5 years.

I do know this motor is not stolen, and just want to identify the year for parts. Any ideas?

Check the carb numbers on a parts site that will get you into the right parts group

So carbs are WME 3301-813773. The 115 tag is still on the motor. Any idea what year? Tks

That number can not be found in a Mercury search, on 115 4 cyl carb number seem to be 3301-82**** and up.
