I have a 1991 bayliner trophy 2002 wa and want to remove and rebuild the winsheild. I know I have to remove the plastic cover strip to get at the screws. I was just wondering if there is any hiden fasteners that I need to worry about? Here is a pic of my windshield.

That looks VERY similar to the windshield I installed on my last boat. I would highly doubt there are any hidden fasteners. Everything should be under the strip.

Re: Trophy windshield removal

Looked at it again last night and it appears tobe screwed down and not bolted. So coming off will not be a big deal. But I will deffinately be bolting it into place afterwards.

Question; Where do I get this foam rubber to replace the plastic cap covering the current screw channel:confused:?

Check with a few different RV repair shops, they often times carry various types of screw cover that will work on boats.

Thanks Yacht Dr. I will deffinately give these people a call. I looked on their site and the even have the windshied molding that goes arolund the glass. I just hope that I do not have to buy a 100ft roll.

By chance does your place of employment seel this stuff by the foot. Both actually. The molding and covering. I am assuming you work around metro beach.

We dont sell the stuff..just retail it as per job.

I did a Cruisers window recently and we got the stuff ordered per ordered foot not roll. I think they gave us scrap for cheaper though..Im not sure but the "cuts" were kinda ..erm.. weird..nun the matter we had to custom cut the stuff anyways.

Im more of the 10 mile and jefferson..

Send me a PM with some info.. Ill be happy to come over for a beer or two ( you buy right :) ).

Re: Trophy windshield removal

Well removed the windsheild last night and I thought I would post some important points on how it is held into place.

Disassembly instructions.

First I worked a flat putty knife in between the plactic cover strips and the frame of the window. This was to get at the screws under the plastic that where holding the windsheild to the cap/hull. I work the putty knife along the top edge, applying small but constant pressure, prying the plastic out. It came out very nicely with out breaking. If you get to a point where it seams not to want to come out, move 2-4" farther done the plastic. It is probably because there is a small amount of sealant on the track the molding snaps on to. I just applied more constant pressure. But not much.

After I had the covers off, I removed the center inside cover on the center line of the boat. This covered the wires for the light socket. I cut the wires where they where crimped with the leads from the switch. Thi cover was held on with two screws.

Next I started removing the screws from the front portion of the windsheild. All along the front. After they where all removed. I remove the whole front widshield from the boat without removing the sides. On my boat the front side off the sides, with only the hull screw holding it in place. You just need to over come the sealant along the bottom of the windsheild and the hull. There was no sealant on the locking/meshing channels on the sides.

Next I removed the screws from the side windshield and remove those panels. If your side panels are very loose I would recomend take the whole whindsheild off as one piece.Just be carefull soe the whindsheild does not fall apart on you. (sides apart)

That was it. Not that big of deal. No bolts that needed to be remove from both sides of the hull. Just scres holding it on. Simple job.

I hope this hels someone along the way with their boat.

I got all my replacement gaskets at Ocean Dynamics. Google search the link. A little slow, but they got me what I needed.
