My trim/tilt guage will never fully give me a truely accurate reading. Trim works fine and when fully up...the gauge reads up...when fully down...it reads down, but the needle goes directly from one side to the other, not incrementaly. You can tell when it is about to move because there is a slight movement but then drastically. Im susspecting a sender...am I on the right track? Thanks in advance. Im a novice mechanic, but handy. This is on a 76 mercruiser and believe the sender is on the inside of the gimbal ring...would this be simple enough to remove to get to the sender? (level of expertise on this boat alone...replaced the starter, bushings in the alternator, rpl throttle handle and all guages)

Re: Trim/tilt only somewhat off

if the senders are located on the outside of the gimbal ring, activated by the rotation of the bell housing pins, then yes you can replace the senders

you will see two black round senders on either side of the gimbal ring if this is the case

if you have the older style senders, then you are out of luck, they are NLA
