1979 glaston inboard 140 stringer lower unit does not tilt up or down.
I had to manually raise it this weekend after loading it up on the trailer. Worked fine all weekend. Had it in the water tied to a dock for 3 days.
Got home and took off the plate with the gasket (4 screws) and the oil
that drained out was light brownish. I want to drain the rest and put new
but I can't read what it says on the metal plate where you fill it. I think
it says fill to top with 4 cycle marine oil. Does that sound right? When I flip the switch up or down it makes a buzzing noise so I am assuming the motor or pump is working but not engaging where it should. I am a novice so any advise would be appreciated. Thanks. Rog

I used a straight 30 weight oil for mine. Also, on my Mercruiser tilt, the pump as 4 o-rings on the bottom. If you have these then check to make sure they are intact and in good shape. I had a bad one causing a leak and no movement, replaced with a similar one from Autozone and its good.

You used 30 weight for the tilt or the inboard engine? Sorry I don't think I was specific. The Oil I am referring to is in the tilt. Thanks.
