1971 merc888 ford302 18'Trisonic. The trim motor was working fine until last week. I moved the outdrive up (on trailer) then when I went to move it down, NO NOISE from the pump or solinoid. Per Merc manual, I checked the switches (OK) then tried hot wire jumper to the blue and green wires. The pump motor runs for the "up" direction, but still no action for the "down". Battery is fully charged. Anything else I can try?

You hotwired the blue and the green wire one at a time right? Blue is up and green is down if I remember correctly.<br />If you have an ohmmeter you can check it out. Disconnect both the blue and the green wires to get a proper reading. Using the meter on the low range, check between the blue wire and the black wire (ground). It should be 1 ohm or there abouts. Next check between the green wire and the black wire. You should get the same result. If not you have a open circuit.

Today I hot wired to the heavy green wire from the motor to where it connects to the terminal block and the motor worked and lowered the drive. Previously, I had hot wired to where the green wire from the harness attaches to the same terminal block, but to another screw (next to the one from the pump motor). When I tried that wire again, nothing happened. What is between the two terminal block connections? Does it route to the reverse blockout device?

Re: Trim pump won't go down

rattana's suggestion to check continuity got me back to basics: I cleaned all the wire terminals and connectors. Re-connected them and now it works fine! Thanks for the input.
