1974 IMP 225S Ford 302 188hp, pre-Alpha OD: The trim pump lable says to use 20W or 20W SAE oil for the trim pump hydrualics. Should it be non-detergent? I am unable to find 20W non-detergent at the auto parts stores. I have found 20W SAE w/ detergent and 30W non-detergent. Will either of those work? If not, where can I get some of the proper oil?

Re: trim pump oil

Over the years Merc has recommended almost any oil that will run out of a bottle for the trim systems, we use Dexron II or III, that way if you have a oil leak you can tell if it's engine or trim and Dextron mix well with any oil

rebars1,either of the oils you found will do just fine.Detergent is useful in a combustion engine and a non issue in a trim set up.Charlie

I should be able to use it On the wheeler as well............
As it stands,.....It took Tooo Long to Build,+ the Black Iron Pipe is the Wrong material to use,.......Tooo Heavy,+ Not all that Rigid,......
But,... It kept Me busy,+ Out of Trouble for Awhile........... ;)
