Trim Motor Runs Fine but Engine Won't Move

I removed the power trim motor and armature on my 2001 90HP Mercury in order to strip down and paint the armaure cylinder because rust was forming on the outside. I also flush all of the trim fluid out once the trim motor and the armature were removed.

I reinstalled the trim motor and the armature and began adding the trim fluid in, and even though the trim motor sounds like it has plenty of power, the engine is not moving up or down.

It worked fine, then you "fixed it"
Lets do some math to figure out where the problem might be (Please excuse the sarcasm)

Had to get that out of my system. But guess what, I have made almost every mistake a person can make around boats. I just seem to get away with it, do it when no one is looking and most of the time, find and correct my mistake before the public sees.

If you put all the parts back in the correct order, you may need to "bleed" any and all air out of the lines and system.

The oil will travel equally in all directions except when it hits air in the line.

Quint, some of those motors have adaptors on the armature which connect the armature to the pump. You might look up the exploded parts diagram to see if you have this part. Maybe it fell out when you had the trim motor off.

You are right Chris. A little plastic piece.

Hate loosing stuff. I was working on the lawn tractor carb. Soaking the parts in MEK in a shallow cat food can. Went to dump the thought it was empty can in the woods at night and heard what was later determined to be the float pivot pin going into the leaves.

I later found that a pin from a 1977 Honda CB-400 spare carb would fit in the briggs engine.

Thank you to both of you guys. Chris hit the nail on the head. I went searching in my driveway for that little metal piece and it was of course on my driveway, but not in the trim unit where it should be!
