Trim Gauge

Hello Guys!
I have the following trouble with my trim gauge, when the boat is @ off position the trim gauge (TG) read the engine up when I turn on the boat the TG read as the engine down I can trim the engine up and down but the TG doesnt read it. Any tip? The engine is an Outboard 1993 Mariner 115 HP

don't know to much about outboards but it sound like the sending unit on the motor. I hope someone with more knowledge chimes in with more info on your application. WW
