I picked up a project toon 1980 Aqua Patio 21' without a motor or console that was so cheap I could not pass it up. It was all good since I have a 25 Johnson electric start with controls and steering system. I noticed that it was missing the transom and when I asked the seller about it he told me it was rotten and he threw it away. Well okay I purchased a new aluminum universal transom $400 including shipping and it is in transit right now. I want to take the family fishing so I don't care about speed or tubing etc. The trailer is pretty rotten and stuck all the way up I had to remove 2 of the deck boards to get at the mechanism so that I could drop/launch the toon to see if it floats. I'm looking at some welding before I can safely take it to the launch site. I know that I am digressing but I am amazed at how much work I have yet to do and at how much work I have been able to accomplish in only 3 hours. I am really happy with this project and don't regret this purchase at all! Now to my problem: I have no reference to how the old transom/motor was positioned. like should the motor sit behind the toons or even with the toons? I see no guide marks or holes to show where the original transom sat. Is there an ideal protocol for mounting the transom/motor?
