Transom Rot/Corrosion...How do I fix it, full re-skin?

Well, I'm guessing that after years of sitting with wet rotted wood against it, the transom decided to start giving out. There are little spots of pitted corrosion all along the inside of the transom.

And...there are a few holes as well. [Take a look at the pics, that's pretty much the extent of the holes] But the pitted corrosion on the inside is complete side to side.

Here's the inside, I tried to get the best pic I could...

And the Outside where the 3 holes are...

I'm thinking of following what I saw in another thread of just taking another sheet of aluminum and laying over the back of the transom, epoxying it and then laying 5200 around the edges.

Is that the best repair? Or is there something that might be a little bit simpler, but still as strong and water tight?

Well actually the strength comes from the wood (obviously not in your case :p ) and the aluminum skin provides the support. I would look into have a piece welded in or you could laminate a piece in using gluvit and rivets. If done properly it will not leak.

That corrosion is minor and should be an easy repair.
