Replacing transom on '78 Chrysler Courier. I install epoxy floors for a living but dont know what epoxy to use for this application. I use Thixo or (cabosil) for a thickener. can I use that? Also what's the best fiberglass cloth to use over the back? TIAtransom cut.jpg

Use CSM (chop stran mat) with polyester resin.
Using 2 pieces of 3/4 plywood and bond the 2 together using CSM and resin

Some use corebond to bond the wood to the transom prior to covering and tabbing with CSM. Some just mix a thick resin and CSM to bond plywood to transom (what I did)

If using epoxy, use laminating resin, cabosil to thicken, 17oz cloth for skin.

Zool, Big thanks =] So I was looking at csm and can only find in 3 oz or 1.5 oz. I assume you're referring to another type cloth?

I'd recommend Biaxle 1708 and 1808 it is much easier to work with then chop strand in my opinion.

17oz (1700) biaxial cloth is best for epoxy for structural lams. CSM backing is not needed and will only become a resin sponge. If u use Poly, then 1708 or the like is generally used. I also use 7-10 oz eglass for non critical areas and stringer caps.
