Transom gap?

So I am mounting a 1996 Johnson 150 onto a 22 foot aqua sport dual console., after having pulled it off A2902CEA-99E9-4E67-8B91-7C47A24AC780.jpeg867B2255-E816-403A-9E3D-A2F3ACF7A081.jpegand rebuild the transom.

It has a stainless steel bracket on top of the transom, which causes a small gap of about an eighth of an inch at the top. I haven’t drilled the holes and mounted the outboard yet.

Should I add a plate or material to the transom to make it flush with the bracket, so there’s no gap? I’m going to resin and caulk the holes regardless. I just wonder if the transom would be more durable if I made the whole area flush with the bracket.

In my opinion that gap won’t make a difference. Just don’t caulk the holes with silicone. Use 3M 5200, the let ‘er eat.

I think you should fill the gap. If you tighten the transom bracket, with a gap in it, the pressure of the bolts could break the transom bracket. The same with a collision, the uneven pressure on the transom bracket could break it.
