Don't the laws that require flotation in boats apply to sailboats, too?

That is tragic; but I was taught to always have a sharp penknife in my pocket, born in 1951. And you would not know how many times it saved my butt; mostly on land, but it works in the water.

The boy was 3.....He wouldnt of known what to do with the knife. :( Though I agree on everyone (of an age that can understad the use of a penknife) should have one.....

I can't find any pic or reference to a Sprint sailboat, but I think a sailboat of that size, flotation or otherwise, is no place for a three year old. Little sailboats turn turtle all the time . . . it's part of the deal. To put this in context we have power boated with 6 week old babies, but again, a small sailboat is a different animal. No matter what, this is still very tragic, and I cannot imagine the guilt. :(

Unfathomable to contemplate such a loss!
