I have a 1990 40hp Johnson TJ40ELESF 1190.
I'm looking for the torque spec. for the rod bolts, head bolts, and main bolts (the ones that hold the case together). I need to replace a connection rod, and the crank because a rod cap came lose. I have a doner power head which should arrive today. My cyclinders, pistons, and head are in great shape. I'm planing to use the crank and bearings from the doner. The doners problem is a cylinder had "slid" a problem which was not noted until it was replaced.

Thanks guys
Another question, do you typically reuse, or rplace the rod bolts when you open the bottom end? My experience is with V8 engines, the harware is typically reused except for some HP applications in which a better grade of hardware is sometimes used.

Re: Torque spec. question

Head bolt's 264 in/ibs., rod's 382 in/lbs. I alway's used the same rod bolts with no failue, but the engine alway's went back for stock performance.

Re: Torque spec. question

Thanks, what about the main cap bolts. Those are the ones that hold the cast together, the ones you pull to gain access to the crank.
Again, thanks for your assistance.
