Our plan right now, is to put the boat on the water next week, preferably Monday...........if (big "if") there is no smoke smell going on. Will try to get as much of that old gas out of the tank as possible.

Now, if we could find a gas station that sold non-ethanol gas, we'd buy it there. Only one station that had that in Jacksonville, FL, but they ended up stop selling it. Our local state park/lake marina, that had one pump of non-ethanol gas, is closed for the season.

I just use high test and depending on how old your boat is it's not required. Not trying to bring up old questions but why can't you just put a hose in the tank and pump it out? you can even use it in your car. I know some here will say to toss it but depending on how much you have just put a little in every time you fill your tank.

Ok, since fishing came into the thread, I must tell all of you this:

When we moved to Jacksonville, FL we didn't have a boat. Consigned our old '89 Invader Bowrider to the same place we bought it from in Aurora, Colorado. They sold it. Once in Jacksonville, we started looking for another boat. During the time we were looking, my wife wanted a saltwater rod/reel for her birthday. So, we bought both of us a rod/reel and tackle box. I won another saltwater rod/reel at a raffle we got into. Bought some more tackle as well.

Now, for the 10 1/2 years we lived in Jacksonville, none of the saltwater gear was ever used. In fact, after we bought our current Celebrity 200 Cuddy in Jacksonville, we also bought and installed rod holders on the boat. Ended up taking them off. We just didn't get into saltwater fishing. Sold, and gave away, all of the saltwater gear before moving back here to Colorado.

Another funny thing.........during the 10 1/2 years we were in Jacksonville, Florida, we kept all of our freshwater fishing gear we had when we lived in Colorado before. Also, kept our old winter parka coats that we had bought in Colorado before.

Well, so far, we have used up 1/2 tank of the old gas just going around local lake 10 times or so within three trips to the lake. We will do that again, at least one more time. Pending wildfire smoke smell, our high temps next week will be in the high 70's and even lower 80's.

And, btw, the boat ran fine "on plane" while using up the 1/2 tank, so far.

... and whos to say once you run a few tanks and a couple of bottles of fuel cleaner/treatment/snake oil it does not fix up all the other issues.

Fishing stories galore...

In college I worked after school 4-11, 5 days. In the summer I worked a second job 7-3. Saturday was my only day off to fish.

The guy I worked with had never been fishing. One Friday afternoon it was gorgeous weather and we decided to skip out after lunch. Lake Erie was like glass - never seen it calmer. Anchored out about 8 miles and the bass were biting heavily.

All of a sudden the wind started to slightly come up. I said reel her in, let's go. By the time I had the anchor up the waves were 1-3. Half way in they were 3-5. After 2 hours we heard women screaming in another boat. Three hours later we passed the jetty into the safe harbor.

My buddy started heaving when the waves hit 4' and he barfed all the way home. My old 16' closed bow woody got us home but after surveying the hull, we popped every single screw holding up the front seats.

Monday morning my buddy told me he would never go fishing again in his life.

In 1999 I was the startup team leader for a new plant build. We put in 4 PLCs for different operations. We needed to start up Monday in late December to enable beancounter tax somethingorothers.

Friday, with everything near completion, we all went out and had a dinner together, had some beer and even went to a local sophisticated ballet rehearsal. We couldn't go home for the weekend because we still had a few motors to bump.

Saturday morning we discovered the Contractor's trailer had been broken into, and among other things, a laptop was stolen. Naturally, it was the ITs laptop and it had all the code for the 4 PLCs. OK, just download the backup. Ugggghhh, he didn't make one.

From about noon Saturday until 8 AM Monday he worked non-stop with a borrowed computer. Gotta love the dedication of an IT guy!!!

While living here in Colorado before (mid 2002 thru Oct 2007), 28 miles southeast of Denver, we done a lot of rainbow trout fishing on Chatfield Reservoir. Caught some might nice look rainbows. Also, caught one very nice size brown trout.

We are only hoping the trout fishing will be just as good on Boyd Lake's south end. Sure seen a lot of fish, medium and big, on our fish finder, when slowly cruising around that area the last time we were on the lake.

I went to pump some fuel out of my boat today so as to mix it up with other toxins to do my winterizing routine. My little hand pump STB and would barely pump anything. However, I was able to get a siphon going, so I got a bunch of 5 gallons jugs lined up ready for their turn. Each jug takes about 20 minutes to fill, but I can do other stuff while that is happening.

Speaking of fishing . . . one of my kids has a friend who is like a fish magnet . . . Throws a like out in the water out in back of the summer house . . . catches a fish within about 2 minutes. Lots of other people tried to do the same . . . nada.

Last year he brought some tuna that he caught off LI sound when he visited. :thumb:

Sort of funny, but there are those folks that think that someone who owns a powerboat is rich. Doesn't make any difference the year, just having a boat makes some people think "they are rich".

We only have the one boat, but appears that many of you have more than one. We can barely afford the one we have, how do you handle having more?

19 years old and a freshman in college - had to have a boat. Couldn't afford one. My part time job barely made the payments and gas for a $200 car I found down the street. And of course there were tuition payments too.

Then I saw an ad in Popular Mechanics for a kit. For $165, and with Grandpa's help (he was a retired carpenter), we built the boat in his garage.

Still problems, so I went to work full time nights and University days. When I graduated I was debt free and had a nice boat.

The cute girlie I met liked boats. We married 3 years later. It took that long to save up for a down payment on a house. We bought an old fixerupper house and I fixeditup. Paid down the mortgage fast. No vacations. Just boatrides on the weekend. Four years, paid off, and THEN started the family.

With no debt and frequent promotions, and vacations in a tent for $8 a night, equity builds up fast. Put 15% in a company credit union each month and when you need a new car you don't have to pay a huge loan %.

As a young adult people often commented about having a house and a boat. Planning and working your butt off is all it takes.

Yes, got 4 now. The family boat, the fishing boat, the antique classic and the jetski. My kid's inheritance is in question, but with their upbringing and awesome initiative, they already have more than I do.

People that own boats USED to be rich :D Rich is relative . . . I've been rich and I've been poor . . . rich is better :thumb:

If you do your own wrench turning, you can typically buy more boat or a better boat for less $$$. I was planning on buying a new (to me) boat in the next couple of years. Looking to go up to the 35-38 foot range and maybe triple outboard engines :) For me it is knowing how to buy . . . the fact that I can do a bunch of work on boats, I can buy an older boat, pay less money for it and make it like it is a new boat.

I have several boats, and just seem to acquire them over time. None of them are wicked expensive or anything. in 2012, I got my 33 foot Formula for about what folks pay for a lightly used bowrider . . . It's an older boat and I bought it at the end of boating season from a guy who needed quick cash. Each year I put about $3k in improvements into it. I think this year with the boat market as it is, I could probably have sold it for what I originally paid.

I have found that my 'sweet spot' for buying used boats is about 15 years old (+/-). . . the value has really come down and depreciation year over year is not that much. I think I'll be buying my next boat in 2022. My expectations are that there will be lots of boats for sale and prices will be down. I'll (hopefully) be sitting there with cash in hand :)

lol, to funny. I've caught smaller than that, just keep them on the hook and toss it back. I call it a pre baited hook.

Well, this is our second boat. Actually, we decided on buying a boat, rather than a couple of horses. I was involved in rodeo for numerous years and owned a horse.

Actually, back in early 2000, before wife and I met, she placed a personal ad in a local magazine. Her ad title read, Looking For A Cowboy With A Boat. Well, very few cowboys were to be found in Orange County, CA., but there were a few "rodeo" types, like myself. I didn't see her ad, but had placed my own in a different magazine and she answered it. At the time, I was still in the rodeo arena, but as a helper. Had sold my horse/tack. However, I did know a few things about boats from when I was in the Navy. I had spent years hauling a horse and knew how to handle/back-up a trailer. That definitely helped when backing up a boat/trailer. Anyway, we've been married ever since (20 years in March 2021)!

We do love boating, but, even with using an electric winch, launching/retrieving has gotten rather tough on our bodies. When we had the boat in dry storage (Florida), where a forklift would put it in the water, that was much, much easier on our bodies. There is no dry storage/forklift launching-retrieving here at all. So, one more summer and we will probably call it quits to boating.

BTW, we never gave up on the "rodeo" thing as we have, and still will, go to many local rodeos. Heck, we have even met many World Champions in the rodeo industry.

boating is one of the most expensive hobbis in the world. its more expensive than racing. (my yearly spend on maintenance and fuel exceeds many friends of mine that run late-models thru-out the midwest).

Currently own the boat in my signature, the fishing boat that dad brought down to Florida a few years ago and a kayak.

currently the fishing boat has a family of frogs under the cover and a family of wasps is in the kayak.
