Too long to get on plane

I was told that if it takes a long time to get on plane, what is happening is that since it runs overfueled, the head temps really climb, cooling is not at the best and as the valve heats to malleable temps, the spring tension literally pulls it back in the head, losing seat pressure.

Any body know of this? My Carver takes a good 10 minutes before it planes, and that is with the trim tabs down. The canvas on the flybridge acts like a sail, especially against a strong wind.

10 Minutes?!! Actually overfueled (running rich?) would normally lower the engine temps due to the cooling effect of the excess fuel, but it costs you fuel efficiency and peak HP/TQ. Is your Carver a planing hull?

If the real question is: "Will a overpropped (too much pitch) boat, tulip a valve?", the answer is yes. The particulars on how it happens, I suspect are different than what you indicated. haulnazz15 is correct that a rich mixture helps cool things.

What engine/drive and what are your wot rpms and gps speed?

It's twin 4.3 v6 with Alpha one drives. At WOT it will easily rev over 4800, according to the tach, and I've had it doiny 35 mph.

I'm not going to the boat until Sunday at the earliest, but when I'm out I will check the RPM & speed.

Well, the rpms for wot are good. Wow, that hull must be quite a plow, to take so much time to plane out. Do you know of other's with same boat and power pkg and what kind of plane time they have?
