Re: Tohatsu 25hp cold start problem
My 1994 Tohatsu start from the first pull now cold or warm when I got it it did not. And it was set to 30HP specification when I got it the X owner advanced the timing and changed the carb gasket. your link is very good for any one how wants to upgrade from 25 to 30HP I used it double check my setting and readjust it a bit thank you. I think if an outboard does not start from the first or second pull it must have an issue.
Hola Kandil, Would it be possible to post a pic of the part you have replaced that gave you starting problems, is it a check valve, where was it located ? I'm building a troubleshooting service guide with pics to illustrate better nice modifications or general starting problems.
Found this interesting Starting Guideline Procedures for Tohatsu's, Mariner's25/30 HP, 2 strokes.
Below 15?C : Turn throttle grip to start position, pull choque knob and recoil starter untill combustion occurs. Push choque knob back, pull recoil starter untill engine starts.
15?C to 25?C : temperature: Turn throttle grip to start position, pull choke knob and recoil starter once. Push choke knob back and pull the recoil starter untill the engine starts.
Over 25?C : Leave throttle grip at minimum acceleration, pull choke knob and recoil starter once. Turn throttle grip to start position, push choke knob back, pull recoil starter until engine starts.
If the 25? advance timing is correct, you should have 180? open carb butterfly when at full wot at the extreme end of the throttle grip. If not, keep adjusting CCW stopper A, (the cam will push the carb rod) untill a total opened carb butterfly is achieved. Lock stopper A tight.
