Have you guys dried up yet? I guess you're dealing with the worst flood in 60 years?

Our English Member?? I thought we might have been speaking of our dear friend Richard, or his shortened name as our "member".

No doubt Richard will be here shortly, he's had a few issues with the flooding at his factory but his house is safe.

At the moment we have 375,000 people without any fresh water or sanitation due to a water pumping station flooding (now there's irony!). They reckon it'll take at least two weeks to repair it.

Flood waters receded over the last couple of days but today it's started raining very heavily again and more flood alerts are being put out.

Worst natural disaster to hit England since 1947 :(

Sorry to hear that Stan, I know its gotta be rough. We've had our fair share of rain here in Texas this year, plus some.

Thanks guys, it's nothing like the scale of Katrina that hit some of you folks but for such a small country it looks like a similar disaster. We've been lucky that there have been so few fatalities so far. Two guys killed yesterday trying to pump water from a building, but they were using a petrol-driven pump indoors and were overcome by fumes.

It'll be interesting to see how things progress over the next few weeks while the drinking water is out.

Some stupid advice being given out by the government at the moment: "If you get contaminated with flood water wash yourself down thoroughly to avoid disease".........errr, wash down with what?

Hoping the rains ease soon so that the flooding subsides and people can start rebuilding their homes and getting back to normal.

Not that I know of. Jimlad is okay and RPJS is fine, just cleaning up his water-logged factory, although he doesn't seem to be able to login to iboats at the moment due to some sort of password issue, he sends his regards.

Some water supplies were restored yesterday, although they say the water isn't for human consumption at the moment.

More heavy rain is expected in the same affected areas over the weekend :(

There is one bit of good news though: it seems our government weather experts have decided it is not down to global warming:

Re: To our English member

Hi all, RPJS here, sorry for not letting you know I'm ok sooner but I've had to work around a password problem (cheers Spinner).

As Stan has said I have been very lucky, my house is on top of a hill and so missed the flash flood that went through the area last Friday night, it did some nasty damage to peoples homes down the road a way.
I wasn't quite as lucky with my factory, it's sited close to three lakes that feed the Birmingham canal system, needless to say these lakes got a little bit bigger than normal and the factory was a little damp for a while, fortunatly most of my stock was up on a mezzanine floor and well out of the way, the water has done a bit of damage to a CNC milling machine but other than that it's just very smelly and messy.
We got most of it cleaned out on Thursday and Friday and my insurance company has a crew in doing a final mopping up job as I type, I'll be back in business on Monday morning.
I was very lucky, I know people who have lost everything, it's going to take a long time for them to put thier lives back together.

Here are a couple photos taken from a webcam overlooking the river Severn, the first was taken last year and shows what the river should look like, the second is as it was durring the hieght of the flood. I have never seen the river up as high as this.

Hey RPJS, good you have insurance as those CNC machines are kinda spendy, n' probably don't like water too much! Although as long as the power to the machine was off it may be OK if ya don't fire it up prior to dryin' in out. Good Luck! JR
